3 Things EVERY Postpartum Mom Needs!
When I was pregnant with my daughter three years ago, I was so concerned about getting all the things the baby needed, and completely forgot to take the time to get things I was going to help me feel “me” again. I think a lot of moms can relate. Months after having my daughter I felt frumpy, grumpy, and it took me a long time to feel like myself again. I’m for embracing our bodies. Women’s bodies are amazing, we help create a baby, we carry a baby for nine months, we birth it, and feed it with our milk our bodies produce. We need to give our soft postpartum pregnancy bodies a break. I also feel like there’s nothing wrong with wanting to feel a portion of your old self again. I know my body won’t be the exact same before I had children and I’m OK with that. My body has completely changed, it’s a woman’s body now complete with wider hips and tiger stripes that call my butt home. My goal for my postpartum journey was to feel more like myself sooner. I’m a strong believer that wearing the proper undergarments can make change a women’s life. I found that to be so true when you’re going through postpartum. So today I’m sharing with you the three things every postpartum mom needs to help her feel like herself again.
I was doing some research and came across this girdle called the Bellefit Dual Postpartum Girdle that swears to help you get back to your pre pregnancy shape faster. I’ve heard several moms swear by these. I literally spent an entire afternoon researching these girdles, reading reviews, and I was like, “I freaking need one of these.”
Let me explain how these girdles work. It’s pretty amazing. During pregnancy the body secretes hormones such as estrogen, progesterone and relaxin that remain in the body after childbirth for approximately six months. These hormones are our body’s way of loosening the abdominal muscles and they facilitate the stretching of the abdominal area by as much as 50%, while the baby grows. They also act to loosen the pelvic structure, joints and ligaments to prepare for childbirth. These same hormones also help the body bounce back. When wearing the Bellefit Dual Postpartum Girdle speeds up the process by providing more support and compression by drawing in stretch muscles. Giving a 360° support structure around the torso, which reduces the strain on ligaments and joints in the lower back, pelvis, and buttocks. Reducing stress in these areas enhances your body’s ability to return to its pre-pregnancy alignment, shape and to lose the post baby tummy faster as shifted and constrained organs return to their pre-pregnancy locations during the first few weeks after c-section or natural childbirth.
I got the Dual Postpartum Girdle and has been one of the best purchases I’ve made for myself. I did a lot of research as to which girdle to get (there’s four different ones) and I’m so glad I got the Dual Postpartum Girdle over the others ones because it has two rows of hooks and eyes in the front and on the side. This allows you to wear your girdle much longer and be able to adjust more.
Below is my before and after. I’m amazed by my results. With my first pregnancy it took me six months to get my stomach to look this flat. FYI, I didn’t diet or exercise during the time I wore my girdle.
I put my girdle on the day I left the hospital and wore it EVERYDAY for three weeks. The next three weeks I wore it more sparingly because it was during the dog days of summer and it was getting way too hot to wear it everyday. So I wore it when I wanted to look more polished. Now that the temperatures are getting cooler, I’m going to start wearing it more. Some women wear their girdle 24/7, I tried to do this but by the time it was bedtime my body needed a break. If I would have worn it during the entire night, I know it would have worked faster and my stomach would have gone down more, but sometimes you need a break from trying to feel beautiful.
When I was doing all of my research on this girdle I read hundreds of reviews and there were a lot of women who ordered the girdle weeks and months after having their baby and still got amazing results from wearing it. It’s best to wear it the first six months postpartum to get maximum results. One other important thing to mention, these girdles are great for women who’ve gone through cesarean or vaginal birth, tummy tuck, abdominal surgery, and hysterectomy. So this isn’t just for women having babies.
I’ll be honest, I needed my husband’s help the first time I put this on (that’s true love right there) and I definitely had to lay down to get it on like they recommend you do. The longer you wear it the easier it will be to put it on.
When I measured myself for my size, I was between a medium and small, so I got the small. I recommend if you’re in between two sizes, go with the smaller size because it will stretch with time.
One thing I do have to mention is this girdle isn’t going to make you lose weight. By wearing the girdle, it works hand in hand with your crazy hormones to make your stomach and hips bounce back faster and get you to a point where you’re left to do the hard work of losing any extra baby weight. I know 100% if I exercised and ate clean during the time I was wearing my girdle consistently, my stomach would look much flatter. But when you’re sleep deprived, breastfeeding non stop, and don’t have the time to eat like a caveman, you tend to eat whatever is convenient. I did my best.
Some tips on wearing this girdle. When you’re going through postpartum you’ll be wearing those thick pads. I highly recommend you wear panties underneath the girdle so you can attach your pad to your underwear. For my LDS ladies, if you’re wondering, I wore my garments over my girdle.
I have a long torso so I needed their crotch extender. It looks like the back of a bra with the hooks and eyes. I contacted customer service and they sent me an extender for FREE! This extender will make it so the girdle doesn’t ride up your butt and in your crotch (ouch), and your extra flab (I’m using me as an example) won’t puff up at the top. The extender gave me more length so the top laid where my bra band laid, this made it more comfortable for me to wear.
Overall, I really loved this girdle. It’s thick, made from great quality material, and can I give a shout out to Bellefit’s customer service, they’re freaking awesome. When I’m done using my girdle, I’m going to save it for my next post pregnancy. The Bellefit Dual Postpartum Girdle is more pricey at $145 then their other girdles, but I HIGHLY RECOMMEND it above the other ones. It will last you longer and it’s thicker and you can adjust it in the front and side.
*I would recommend you only buying directly from Bellefit because if you buy it from Amazon or from a third party store, you won’t get the warranty on the girdle. The first girdle I received had a flaw in it and I called up customer service and immediately sent me out a new one. It was awesome.

A couple weeks ago I posted an epic blog post about the four nursing bras every lactating mom needs. Seriously ladies, a good nursing bra that fits properly is going to be your bosom friend and will help facilitate in having a successful breastfeeding and pumping experience. Hands down, this is THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU NEED. If you’re not sure what your size is or if you know you’re not wearing the right size, I highly recommend you head over and read my How Bras Should and Shouldn’t Fit guide and Bra Sizing 101 guide where I’ll show you how to find your size. Buying and trying on nursing bras can be a literal pain if you don’t know what you’re doing or what to look for. No worries, I wrote a guide on how to go nursing bra shopping. Below are the four nursing bras I HIGHLY RECOMMEND, but I also recommend some other great nursing bras on this post too.
Some might think, how can nursing pads make you feel better? I’m here to tell you that having great nursing pads in your arsenal is going to make your life much easier. Believe me, there are great nursing pads and some really crappy ones out there. Some nursing pads look like you stuffed a sock in your bra. I’ve tried a few and I’ve narrowed it down to my two favorites. I picked a washable nursing pad and a disposable one you gotta have.
So these are my FAVORITE reusable/washable nursing pads. They’re more pricey but I promise are TOTALLY WORTH THE MONEY. Let me tell you why I love them.
- Extremely soft and the more you wash and wear them they get softer.
- If you’re into wearing organic clothing, enough said.
- Wash well in the washer and dryer and don’t fall apart.
- You can purchase these cotton and hemp nursing pad liners to insert in the nursing pad for times when you’re more engorged like during the night, hallelujah!
- Thin and smaller in size making it so they won’t bunch underneath your bra.
- Don’t bunch or crease around the edges when wearing them underneath your bra.
- Creates a smooth and seamless look underneath your clothes.
These are my favorite disposable nursing pads for the following reasons:
- Contoured so they fit the shape of your breast so you don’t get a padded or bunched look underneath your bra.
- Quilted honeycomb lining that keeps the milk away from your breast and therefore keeps you feeling dry.
- You can easily find these at Target, Amazon, Walmart, and other local stores.
- Two adhesive strips on the back to ensure they’re not going to be loosey goosey and move around.
So there you have it. The THREE things every postpartum mom needs to keep yourself looking put together, beautiful, and feel like yourself while going through the journey of postpartum. Did I miss a product you used and loved while going through postpartum? I’d love to hear from you! Make sure to comment below if you have any questions!
